To make egg cheese, special molds are required. An egg cheese mold must have holes where the whey can drain out. In the past, the mold was often made of wood, hand-carved in a beautiful pattern. Äggostestjärna and äggosteros were common names for the molds. Today they are cultural artifacts and can be found in museums or are carefully preserved within families.\nThe original for this egg cheese mold comes from Flatön and is made of birch. It was made in the late 1800s by Martin Andersson for the Väster farm. It has been used for several generations there and has over time acquired a beautiful shiny surface. \"Not for sale\" wrote grandmother. We are happy to follow that instruction. Instead, we have now made an identical one in an easy-to-care-for material suitable for today's households.\nThe material is polypropylene.
