Bucks and Bruisers

First published in1971, Bucks and Bruisers is a critical biography of Pierce Egan that examines his life and career. Through Egan's life and work, it explores the Regency and Interregnum periods, providing both a social and literary history of the era. Due to the limited accessibility of Egan's writings to general readers, the author offers a comprehensive account of his key works, which contain important perspectives on the social history of the time. The book concludes by examining Egan's influence on his peers and successors, most notably Charles Dickens.
