Coming of Age in a Complicated Century

Coming of Age in a Complicated Century: An Anthology of Russian Writing for Teens, 1917-2017 is the second of two volumes featuring works for children and teens in English translation. Like volume one, A Hundred Years of Childhood: An Anthology of Russian Writing for Children, 1917-2017 (2026), volume two contains many works translated into English for the first time. The collection serves as a companion to the 2022 study, Growing Out of Communism: Russian Literature for Children and Teens, 1991-2017, also by Bukhina, Herold, and Lanoux, and includes many of the texts examined in that study. Both Coming of Age in a Complicated Century and A Hundred Years of Childhood will appeal to a wide range of readers, including teachers and students of Slavic and childhood studies, caregivers, children and teens themselves, and anyone interested in Russian literature and culture.
