Constitutional Operating Model

Modern organizations face more complexity than their structures were ever designed to absorb-and that is why they struggle to keep pace.In an environment defined by rapid change, artificial intelligence, and increasing expectations of accountability, traditional operating models are no longer sufficient. They were designed for stability, hierarchy, and controlled change-not for the scale, speed, and complexity organizations now face. The Constitutional Operating Model introduces a new approach to enterprise design-one that treats organizations not as systems to be optimized, but as institutions that must be governed. Drawing on the principles of constitutional systems, it shows how to define purpose clearly, establish decision rights, separate authority, and embed accountability into the fabric of the organization. This is a practical framework for leaders operating in complex, regulated, and technology-driven environments - enabling organizations to act with clarity, exercise authority with confidence, and adapt without losing control. After reading this book, you will be able to:Design governance structures that absorb complexityEstablish clear decision rights and accountabilityApply constitutional principles within digital and AI-enabled environmentsBuild organizations that can adapt without losing coherence
