His father was falsely blamed and died in jail. Raised under a new name, Julian spent his life collecting evidence and recreating the killings to force the truth into the open and draw Elara to Alder Lane. He kidnaps Priya, builds a "e;gallery"e; of the murders, and waits for Elara.At Alder Lane, Julian restores the kitchen exactly as it was and gives Elara Maya's dress. Reading it, Elara sees the truth: Frank Garrity killed Maya. Maya hid Teddy, slipped her bonds using the thumb trick, scratched Garrity's face, and died thinking of Elara and of the boy in the closet. Cole arrests Julian. Garrity's DNA matches the scrapings. Garrity is arrested, coldly unrepentant. Julian is imprisoned. Elara tells him Maya's final message, touches her sister's grave without an echo, and begins to heal.
