Directed by Ciro Guerra, Embrace of the Serpent (2016) is a hypnotic, black-and-white exploration of colonialism, memory, and the Amazon. Inspired by the travel journals of early 20th-century explorers, it follows an Indigenous shaman and two Western scientists across decades as they search for a sacred healing plant. A poetic, haunting vision of the clash between cultures and the vanishing world of the Amazon rainforest and a landmark in Latin American cinema.Från IMDB: The story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who work together over the course of forty years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant.
