Ethos of the Cosmos

The Living Church "William P. Brown, in The Ethos of the Cosmos, rewards his readers with a significantly scholarly, yet readable, text, celebrating the place of the imagination and myth in the creation of Israel's moral character. . . Brown's approach is captivating and honoring to both the scriptures and the 'whole state of God's creation."Jewish Quarterly Review "It is rare to find a volume that combines theological sophistication with historical and philological learning, and does so in prose that is extraordinary in its eloquence, tasteful and erudite in its use of Latin phrases, and only occasionally too flowerly. Religiously serious, urbane, and yet accessible to the literate layman, Brown's study is probably the best book on creation in the Hebrew Bible. "Catholic Biblical Quarterly "A brief review cannot do justice to [Brown's] work. In some ways, Brown attempts to construct a new genre of biblical analysis in which detailed literary analysis, imaginative theological construction, and reflection on ethical modes of discourse are combined."
