I Came to You

I Came to You. I Chose Kolyma brings together the memoirs of two remarkable individuals whose lives were shaped by the same oppressive system: Boris Lesnyak, a former Gulag prisoner, and Nina Savoyeva, a physician who worked in Kolyma's camp hospitals. Drawing on firsthand experience, they offer a vivid and deeply human account of Stalinist repression, forced labour, and the enduring legacy of the Gulag. Alongside their own stories, the memoirs illuminate the lives of many others caught in the machinery of terror, including writers, clergy, workers, and political figures. Enriched with archival documents, rare photographs, and correspondence with Varlam Shalamov, this volume makes an important body of historical testimony available to English-language readers for the first time.
