Kindness Effect: Small Actions. Stronger Connections. Better Workplaces.

The Kindness Effect came from a simple question I kept asking myself: What if we could change the culture of our workplace without another policy, another mandatory training class, or a big budget?Throughout my years working with people, I've learned that some of the biggest differences we make start with the smallest things. A conversation. Remembering someone's name. Checking on a coworker who is sick or injured. Celebrating a birthday or a small victory. Sitting with someone who is grieving. Sometimes it's simply asking, "e;Are you okay?"e; and actually taking the time to listen to the answer.In this book, I share personal stories from my life, my work, my military experience, and my years as an Employee Assistance Professional. Some of them are funny, some are difficult, and some are very personal, but each taught me something about people, relationships, trust, and the importance of being there for one another.I wrote The Kindness Effect especially for EAPs, but its message goes beyond EAP work. It's for supervisors, union representatives, managers, employees, and anyone who believes we can make our workplaces a little better.I'm not suggesting that kindness will solve every workplace problem. It won't. But I do believe that small actions create stronger connections, and stronger connections create better workplaces.Sometimes changing a workplace starts with something as simple as one person, one kind word, and one good deed at a time.
