Tales by Polish Authors (Edition2024)

"Tales by Polish Authors" by Else C. M. Benecke, offers a glimpse into Polish literature during a period of national struggle. From 1795 to 1918, Poland was erased from the map, absorbed by its imperial neighbors-Russia, Austria, and Prussia. Despite this erasure, the spirit of the Polish people endured, vividly expressed through their writing, music, and art. This collection features six short stories by notable authors, including Henryk Sienkiewicz, Stefan Zeromski, Adam Szymanski, and Waclaw Sieroszewski. Their works transport readers to the late 19th century, reflecting the cultural and emotional landscape of a nation grappling with its identity and resilience in the face of oppression. Through these narratives, Benecke captures the essence of Polish heritage, showcasing the richness of storytelling that flourished even in times of hardship. This anthology serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Polish literature and its role in preserving national spirit
