Yogi's Joy

The Yogi's Joy presents a vivid and practical commentary on three songs of the great Tibetan yogi Milarepa, drawn from seminars given by Sangharakshita.Based on live teaching transcripts, the book retains a direct, conversational quality while opening up the depth of Milarepa's poetic expression. These songs, rooted in the tradition of yogic realisation, explore both the outer hardships of solitary practice and the inner terrain of transformation. Across three central narratives, the text explores key aspects of the spiritual path: confronting fear, letting go of ego-clinging, finding and relating to the sangha, and deepening trust in one's own experience. Milarepa's encounters - with disciples, strangers, and even demons - are revealed as expressions of the mind itself, offering insight into the psychological and symbolic dimensions of Buddhist practice. At its heart, The Yogi's Joy shows how joy arises not from comfort, but from disciplined practice, devotion to the guru, and the gradual freeing of the mind from fear and self-centredness.Accessible yet profound, it is especially suited to readers engaged in ongoing practice who are looking to deepen their understanding of the Dharma through poetic and experiential teachings.
